Are Watermelons good for you?

Without a doubt! Watermelons are a classic summer fruit - refreshing and packed with nutrients. Every juicy bite has high levels of vitamins A, B6 and C. There's even a modest amount of potassium. Plus, it makes for an amazing snack being fat-free, low in sodium and only 40 calories per cup! Moreover, watermelons are high in amino acids which allow for the body to function optimally, while the present antioxidants help prevent cancer.

Only the red part of the fruit is usually eaten, when there’s much more nutritional benefit to be had. The white flesh near the rind for example contains more citrulline. This amino acid is beneficial for better cardiovascular health and blood circulation. There are also watermelon seeds; recent studies point to their high levels of protein, magnesium, vitamin B and good fats.

To cap it all off, these are some extra advantages of Watermelons:

  • helps in hydration
  • can improve digestion
  • lowers inflammation and oxidative stress
  • helps relieve muscle soreness
  • contains beneficial plant compounds
